As part of the Lancaster Bicentennial Celebration
of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, the Lancaster County Historical
Society will be presenting in 2003:
A major exhibition, the Worlds of Jacob Eichholtz: Portrait
Painter of the Early Republic. Eichholtz was a contemporary
of Lewis and Clark. He painted a portrait of Andrew Ellicott,
the surveyor who served as instructor in the use of navigational
instruments for Meriwether Lewis during Lewis’ visit
to Lancaster. The Eichholtz portrait of Andrew Ellicott
will be included
in the exhibition. The exhibition will run concurrently at three
locations: Lancaster County Historical Society from April
9-December
31, 2003; Heritage Museum of Lancaster County from April 15-December
31, 2003; Franklin & Marshall Phillips Museum of Art,
April 25-December 20, 2003.
A Regional History Colloquium on Friday, May 2, 2003 at 4:30
p.m. at the Lancaster County Historical Society. Barry Rauhauser,
Stauffer Curator of the Lancaster County Historical Society will
present Quadrature of the Lune: Surveying the Life of
Andrew Ellicott.
